Our Goal:

OUR GOAL: Visit fifty states within the next two years. (edited: We missed our two year deadline but still hope to visit all 50 states)

The Rules: States we visit or where we have already visited as a family (three or more members) count. States visited by only one or two family members (such as a business trip) don't count.

Layovers and stopovers don't count. We have to actually either drive though a state or do some activity, outside of the airport, in that state.

Birmingham, AL - getting home

We arrived at the airport at around 4:40 for a 5:15 flight.  The kids were hungry but I convinced them to walk past the one dining option on the one side of security in favor of eating on the other side.  I didn't know how long security would take.  It turns out that it didn't take long at all, we were the only ones there.

After breezing through security, were were dismayed to find that they were rolling up the sidewalks inside.  Nothing was open.  And, our flight was on a 45 minute delay.  We finally found a pizza hut express where the only option at that late hour (sarcasm, it was 4:40) was the personal pan cheese pizza.  But, when you are hungry, a cheese pizza is perfect.

The flight as delayed because earlier storms in the Baltimore area had caused a backup so we had to wait while that cleared out.  We were boarded a little early so that we could take off the moment we were cleared.  All 29 of us.  yes, it was a very empty flight.  98 empty seats to be exact.  I sat alone in the front row and the kids shared the row behind me.  This time, Big Boy got the coveted window seat.

Our flight was very smooth until just before Baltimore but even then it was only a couple of bumps.

Then, we landed, taxied and then, sat.  And sat, and sat.  There were no empty gates for us to park at.  After what seemed like forever, we finally deplaned.  We had a chance to stop in and visit my husband as he worked to load another plane.

Two hours late getting home and only having half the time at the science center the kids still declared the trip a success.

And, of course, I was the only one awake on the car ride home
