Although we are still planning on heading to Niagara falls on Thursday, Big Boy and I decided to scrap the plans to head to New Mexico on Saturday. (We didn't give Lil' Bit a vote - she always goes along with whatever we decide). I was on the fence with the ambitious plans. It would have meant a very long travel day on Friday only to spend a long time in the car and then turn right around and fly back on Sunday. Also, the flights are getting pretty full which puts our travel plans at risk. Additionally, I have a quick trip planned for Monday and any delays getting back from Albuquerque would interfere with that.
Big Boy had to miss a cub scout camp out last weekend due to a family outing with cousins, aunt uncle and grandmother so he wanted to make pans to spend the day with one of his friends.
So, we will only hit one new state and one new country (Canada) this week.
You have to be flexible when flying standby with two children (ages 9 & 11) but I look at each trip as an adventure and some times just getting there (and back) is the biggest part of the trip. We fly free - thanks to my husband working for an airline - and we travel on a budget, often taking our own food and forgoing souveniers. We sometimes plan and sometimes wing it but we always manage to have fun.
Our Goal:
OUR GOAL: Visit fifty states within the next two years. (edited: We missed our two year deadline but still hope to visit all 50 states)
The Rules: States we visit or where we have already visited as a family (three or more members) count. States visited by only one or two family members (such as a business trip) don't count.
Layovers and stopovers don't count. We have to actually either drive though a state or do some activity, outside of the airport, in that state.
